Two football players from California to join Stingers

Head coach Mickey Donovan is pleased to announce Robby Haines and Yamil Slim from Citrus College in Glendora, Calif., have committed to the Concordia Stingers football program.

Haines is a defensive end/tight end who checks in at six foot two, 240 pounds. He played the last two seasons with the Citrus College Owls in the Southern California Football Association's Central Conference.

The native of Arcadia, Calif., had four tackles, five assists and 1.5 sacks over two seasons. He also caught nine passes for 72 yards and four touchdowns.

At Arcadia High School in 2011, Haines was the Pacific League Defensive Player of the Year. He was also named to the Pasadena Star-News All-Area Football Team.

At defensive end, he recorded a team-high 15.5 sacks and had two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Haines also had 28 receptions for 385 yards and eight majors.

The five-foot-11, 190-pound Slim suits up at outside linebacker and strong safety. The resident of Hacienda Heights, Calif., recorded seven tackles and two sacks in his two seasons with the Owls. Previously he played at Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, Calif.

“It's inspiring to have players from all over expressing interest and committing to the Concordia football program,” said Donovan. “Robby and Yamil are travelling a long way to join our family. To me that says a lot about their dedication and love of the game. Our coaching staff is looking forward to welcoming them in August."
