Journalism student wins tuition contest

The Department of Recreation and Athletics in partnership with the Concordia Bookstore and Computerstore is pleased to announce Concordia University journalism student Awakhiwe Dlodlo is the winner of the Win Your Tuition and Books Contest.

DloDlo's name was drawn from several hundred entrants during the Concordia Stingers home-opener football game last Friday night. After the third quarter, she was presented a ceremonial cheque by Katie Sheahan, the Director of Recreation and Athletics, and Danny Kane, manager of the Concordia bookstore.

Dlodlo received an enthusiastic round of applause from the crowd of 4009 fans and was immediately interviewed by a CTV news reporter.

The prize was the equivalent of Quebec tuition (maximum value of $1,668.30) plus a $500 credit valid for use at the Concordia Bookstore and Computerstore. All Concordia undergraduate and graduate students who filled in a Web form on the Concordia Stingers homepage (www.stingers.ca) were admitted free of charge to the Stingers' football game versus the Sherbrooke Vert et Or. Concordia students also enrolled in a minimum of nine undergraduate or graduate credits were entered in the Win Your Tuition and Books Contest.

The next home football game for the Stingers is Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. when Concordia hosts the St. Francis Xavier X-Men. Mini Buzz dolls, replicas of the immensely popular Stinger mascot, will be given away to the first 100 people who bring coupons from the Web site - www.stingers.ca . Full details and the coupon will be posted Friday, Sept. 15 at noon.
