Football Stingers crack Top 10

The Concordia Stinger football team moved into the CIS Top 10 rankings for the first time this season.

The Stingers were No. 7 in the national poll, which was released this morning by the CIS office in Ottawa. Concordia was unranked in the first three weeks of the university football season.

Head coach Gerry McGrath and his team make the elite 10 at the expense of their cross-town rivals - the Montreal Carabins. A pivotal 25-11 win over the Carabins last Saturday improved the Stingers' record to 2-0 this season. Montreal was the No. 4 team in the country heading into the contest. The Carabins' second straight loss drops them down to the No. 10 spot in the rankings.

The CIS Top 10 football committee is made up of 15 members of the media from across Canada, including the Montreal Gazette's university sports reporter Randy Phillips.
